My friend has been playing Animal Crossing New Horizons on my Nintendo Switch for three days. I would like to participate and support them a bit in harvesting, collecting, etc. We managed to play together in the "split screen", but as soon as I want to pick up a tool, it ends up in the box in the service center. If I understand it correctly, this should actually only happen with the collected items. So why can't I use tools to chop wood etc? At the moment I can only pick up items that end up in the box, shake trees and run after them.

You have to choose yourself as leader (with the yellow flag). Then take the desired tool and change the leader again, then you can use the previously selected tool.
But is only ever possible with one tool, so you have to do it with each tool.

In the long term, however, this is really not a sensible solution, since it is quite complex. On some pictures and in some posts you can see screenshots where the supporter can select tools, but that's probably for the pure online mode…
