Headset microphone not working properly?

So I bought a new headset about 1 week ago and when I connect the cable to my ps4 controller, the microphone does not work directly. I mean that I have to plug and unplug the cable very often in my controller until the microphone works. Can someone explain why this doesn't work properly?

Either it is due to loose contact on your controller or your headset.

I would guess that the adapter was deformed somehow. Most of these products have a 1 or 2 year warranty so if you haven't bought it online I would recommend going to the store (with the receipt) and exchanging it. But it can also be simply due to the connection of the PS. First try whether it works with other devices and then decide.
