Hi. I would like to paint my ps4 controller. Disassembling and assembling is no problem. It was said you should first roughen so with sandpaper and then apply a primer and then the color. After that you should spray clearcoat over it. However, I want my controller Matt looks, and if I spray clear coat over it, then it shines so glossy moderately. Can I just omit the clear coat or is there any transparent lacquer that does not shine but is matt? P.S. Should I spray white paint under the actual paint to make the paint more intense? And how many layers of what should I spray on it? I've already looked at Youtube videos but leave open too many questions. LG
You definitely need the lacquer coating, otherwise the color wears off too quickly through your fingers. There's also matte varnish for the seal.
If you take a wise controller, you can save the primer. For a black you need the, if you want a bright color orders.
Sanding is a variant - but I would advise to a good plastic primer (primer). They are available in white or gray - if you choose a bright finish, white would be advisable - with a dark finish, gray would be an option.
Your project would be typical for a car painter - also here plastic parts are painted. You get in car parts trade primers and paints in good quality - let you advise there. Matten final coat you get as well. Remember that a dull paint will be more likely to pick up dirt. The hands are never 100% clean.
Applying a final clear coat as a protection makes sense - most durable would be epoxy paint or 2-component paint.
I have good experiences with paints from Caparol. https://www.amazon.de/...004KKTT5S/
The matching paints from Caparol in different colors are durable and lightfast. Since they are based on acrylic polyurethane, they are quite durable.

This would make painting with a brush possible.
The number of layers:
Primer at least 2x
Lacquer: 2x
Possibly. Clear coat: 1x (on request for protection more)
spraying:
More paint jobs are necessary - spray thinly each time, wear mask, cover environment. Ensure adequate ventilation
When repainting, pay attention to the drying times to avoid intermediate sanding. (Stands on the cans)
