PlayStation delay on TV?

I plan to buy the ps4 or the ps5 soon.

I've heard that there may be some delays on the TV.

For info, I have a Samsung series 7.

Can someone tell me if there can be delays?

Or is everything good there?

Po

TVs generally have a higher delay than monitors. Overall, one speaks of an input lag.

This is traditionally very high for consoles. Depending on the game (30 FPS games are worst here)

If you value low input lag, the only sensible consequence is to play on the PC.

There are always delays, just how big they are.

In order to be able to give specific information about your television, we need the exact description, as there are also differences between the individual models in the response delay (input lag) within the series.

One forum speaks from 2 to 16ms, in another depending on the mode between 60ms and 30ms. So there's a delay, yes.

Thanks for the reply☺️

And what does the input lag have to do with the frames of a game?

In addition, this is not classically very high with consoles but with TV!

Po

In other words, 30 FPS games on consoles and then with TV. So a combination. And yes, the FPS have something to do with the input delay.

Is actually quite good with the Samsung, also the entry-level models of the 7000 series, but LG and Sony also have their own gaming mode for cheaper models, which is then better than the entry-level models from Samsung because they have none.

Ma

In other words, whether with 30 or 60 FPS games on console and TV for years completely normal and millions of times without disadvantage, played without problems.

And my question was what did they have to do with it.

But I would like to take it from you in your ignorance. You can convert the input lag to FPS. However, these FPS have nothing to do with the output of the game based on the hardware. And that's what you want with your 30 FPS all the time.

Or else, I play on the One X Horizon 4 with 60 FPS on a Q7 with Feesync with an input lag of less than 11ms.

Does not mean a noticeable or influencing delay.

TVs often have a long delay compared to a standard gaming monitor that has 1-5 ms. A television is a lot higher but ms stands for milliseconds so you can imagine that there are longer delay times with television. I do not know how many ms yours has that would be interesting then you can compare it with a monitor

Po

It's okay, keeping the input lag as small as possible is a good thing. However, what you do there are only very few consoleros. In other words, they have a significantly higher input delay.

When I played Dead by Daylight with a buddy (Ps4), I was shocked by this extreme input lag. That was a result of the very low FPS in this game on a standard Ps4 and its TV.

And I'm only concerned with the noticeable lag that arrives in your eyes between input and recorded feedback. Only that counts and that has something to do with the FPS. It is actually quite logical if you imagine a game running with only 1 FPS. There can no longer be any question of direct control.

Ma

Almost all TVs have a special gaming mode that reduces the input lag so that it can be played without delay.

Your buddy is more of a negative example. I personally don't know anyone who plays like this. I mean, you can tell immediately.

But OK, we understand each other. So sorry if I saw a console base here.

Besides, before the invention of LED TVs with all their picture embellishments, there was no such problem at all. And that's exactly what the gaming mode does. He exhibits all digital image enhancers.

Po

I do not know as well. Doesn't want to mess around with the buddy on TV, but he doesn't notice.
I know there was no such thing with the tubes. That's why this high-end Sony monitor is available on Ebay at record prices. It already had 16: 9 and can display very high resolutions.

Ma

Well if he doesn't notice it's OK.

Me and no one I know would want to play like that.

And you don't really need a high-end monitor. As I said, almost every reasonably reasonable TV has a gaming mode. You just have to inform yourself before buying. Widescreen, even if 16: 9 in 4K is now the standard for TVs. Paired with HDR to 55 inches, it is a pleasure anyway. I can say that from my own experience. 😉

If you want to keep your frame rates as fluid as possible and you still want to buy your gaming platform anyway, you could also consider a PC.
The delay (input lag) for TVs is always higher than for monitors, because the latter are designed for flicker-free image technology. On TV, rather rich colors play the most important role. In addition, the frame rate is higher on the monitor, there are already models with 240 fps (frames per second), a television can't do that.

Last but not least, Microsoft is an open system that allows cross play: You can also play PC against Xbox online and even play Nintendo for some games (if some of your friends are playing on Xbox or the Switch). This is not possible at Sony, as other platforms are still categorically excluded in multiplayer. So far, Sony has not clearly stated whether this should change with the PS5.
