Why can't I connect my Ps4 to my monitor?

I've bought a cable on one side has the HDMI and on the other side has the VGA port for the monitor. But it can be connected on the screen, nothing appears. Is that due to the cable, I may have to buy an HDMI to VGA adapter although I already have the same cable from the construction?
