I stream on Twitch and have had an extreme problem with OBS (SLOBS) for about three weeks. Whenever I have my OBS on the second screen and my game on the other as usual, I can watch the graphical representation of the audio level start to lag. In fact, my entire Windows is lagging because of it. SLOBS then indicates that there should have been skipped frames, which should have something to do with my CPU (Ryzen 7 3700X).
After trying everything possible in OBS and even switching to OBS.Live as a test, I blamed the problem on broken hardware and upgraded my PC. A new "Ryzen 7 5800X" CPU, a new 850 watt be quiet! Power supply, a new Nocutal NH-D15 cooler and a new ASUS ROG Strix B550-F gaming motherboard. Everything refurbished and lo and behold, the problem is still there!
Maybe someone has an idea how I could troubleshoot the error?
PS: My remaining parts: 32GB (2x16384MB) Crucial Ballistix Sports LT V2 Dual Rank DDR4-3200 RAM, 1000GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD, Toshiba 3000GB High Performance HDD, 8GB Gainward GeForce RTX 2080 Super Phantom GPU
So in terms of hardware, the hardware is more than sufficient.
So the whole thing would first be due to the following points:
Driver out of date (Windows & Hardware)?
Wrong settings in OBS? (It is best to have screens from the windows: VIDEO> OUTPUT> ADVANCED (upper part))
How long has your Windows been running? Since you have a new board, am I going to assume it was freshly installed?
So without you having changed anything, did it suddenly start that these lags are there?
Is it still the case if you put less load on OBS on the encoder?
So as a test, select "veryfast" at x264 or "performance" (or even lower) at "NVENC (new)".
I'm not sure how it is with SLOBS, but with OBS you can open a window under "View" - "Docks" - "Statistics" where you can see why it is lying.
So if, for example, "coding delay" is to blame, then it is due to the incorrectly set encoder.
The encoder can't be set the same for every game, or it depends on the game settings.
So the more the PC is stressed apart from OBS, the less it can be additionally stressed with OBS. Or just less with another program / game. Depending on how high quality you want everything yourself, or depending on how high quality the recording / stream should be.
The network will almost certainly not be the cause. You need an upload speed that is fast enough, but if there were problems, only the stream would buffer and jerk and that's it.
It will probably not be because of the drivers, since they should all be up to date by now at the latest. Not necessarily, but doesn't sound like it either.
Check anyway in an emergency.
By the way, OBS studio would be less performance-intensive than SLOBS and generally the most recommendable in terms of quality and performance… In an emergency, stop… I realize that SLOBS is more comfortable and does not necessarily mean that OBS studio will solve the problem.
So normally the fault lies with the encoder if the PC is overloaded.
It can also happen that the whole PC or the game is bothering and not just the recording.
I specialize in OBS studio, so if you decide on this program and want tips on the settings, it is best to send me screenshots of the settings "Video", "Recording" and "Extended (upper part)". Can I then check or give you suggestions for improvement.
The drivers should be up-to-date, I added screenshots above and I completely reinstalled Windows with the new board.
I previously tested the "veryfast" preset and apparently no more problems. But even here, despite the new CPU, this changed again to the negative after the "fast" preset. During the day I will go through the other presets again with my usual "NVENC (new)" encoder and screenshot the results again.
I have already submitted screenshots of my actual settings in OBS.Live here.
Okay, can no longer post the OBS results because the question has become too long ^^ '
Skipped frames due to coding delay:
On max performance: 302/7313 (4.1%)
Performance: 1077/16246 (6.6%)
Quality: 91/7680 (1.2%)
Much better than in SLOBS that had around 30% and thus freeze my PC, but the game continues to stutter ugly… I'm not sure how representative this test was, but if you can think of something, I'll be happy about Input T-T
"Keyframe Interval" to 2 on Twitch and I would try what happens if you set the color range to "limited" in "extended". It could be that the color of the picture is more suitable.
You can try to turn off the "Psycho Visual Tuning" under "Output".
Maybe this helps that the stream becomes a little more stable without the picture becoming too bad.
Playing on the PC with QHD and over 60fps puts a lot of strain on the PC.
As a result, not much is possible with OBS, even with these PCs.
So in an emergency you could try what happens when you gamble with 1080p and 60fps. (If more fps is very important to you, you can limit this less step by step.)
This should make it a lot easier for the stream to normalize.
Streaming with 1080p is also not without it.
I would try 900p there, whether that is enough for you with 6000 bit rate.
So with a lot of luck it will be enough if you turn off Psycho Visual Tuning.
If not set to 900p for the stream, if the resolution is enough for you.
If that's not enough, you have to make compromises in the game yourself.
The presetting of the encoder you have to find out yourself with longer tests, what is maximally possible for you.
The numbers of that sound a bit strange that you posted.
The PC is loaded too much overall. OBS studio helps you a little with less stress as you have recognized.
