I wanted to know if the Xbox Series X reaches 4K 120fps with some games, does it then manage more with 1440p e.g. 144fps or is the limit at 120fps? So I wanted to buy a monitor and if the console doesn't manage more than 120fps a 120hz monitor would be enough right? 144hz would then actually be unnecessary.

That's right. Please note, however, that not every game on the new Xbox will run in 1440p and 120fps. So it can be that you only achieve 60 or even 30 fps in certain games, that depends on the game itself and its implementation.
