Can I get access to an unassigned number?

I have the following problem.

I've had an Xbox and a matching MC account for years.

Now I have stored my old number (in use until around 2015) in the MC account.

Now I need the code that is sent to the number. Can you somehow have this activated by the provider or elsewhere only for the SMS?

Do you have a number there? I NEVER get a person on the line. Always only computer voices.

Tried here? Experience has shown that you will be put through to a person if you tell the computer garbage long enough ;-)
