Can the Xbox controller still be saved?

I have the following problem.

I can barely sprint with my Xbox One X controller. The left stick no longer "clicks" properly, or you can no longer hear / feel it clicking.

If I want to sprint, I have to push hard and with luck, my character sprints.

I suspect that there's dirt or dust inside, but I don't dare to open the controller and look, as I have absolutely no experience in this regard.

There's no longer any guarantee and before I buy a new controller, I thought I'd ask just to be on the safe side.

If you no longer have a warranty and would throw it away anyway, unscrew it and see if you can clean it. If not, you haven't lost anything if you had bought a new one anyway.
