Why does multiplayer mode not work offline in Minecraft xbox 360?

I have the problem that me and my best friend are trying to play offline on Minecraft, but nothing comes when we press start on the controller: / actually it should say that you should log in, but nothing comes out. I don't know why because I've never had such a problem. I look forward to answers; -;

Do you have pictures? I don't know if you have to be online to log on to the X-Box…
