I believe the fact that Sony is emulating the PS5 controller like the Xbox controller shows that the Xbox controller is the better one.
I can't understand why the XBox controller is so popular. I find it uncomfortable in the hand, the D-Pad is just a stupid plate that is very uncomfortable to use.
I think the PS4 controller is so much better in the hand.
Personally, I can't make friends with Xbox controllers, especially because of the different positions of the sticks. My favorite is still the PS3 controller because it feels best in my hand. However, I don't yet know how the PS5 controller feels…
Even if I'm not an Xbox friend: the controllers of the Xbox One / 360 are simply better / more pleasant than those of the PS4.
(I only use controllers as "normal" controllers on the PC, I can't comment on additional features on an Xbox One / PS4).
I can't say anything about the new controllers (from the Series X / S and PS5) either, I didn't have it in my hand (yet).
My favorite so far is the controller of the Wii U (ie the "normal" controller, not the thing with the touch display in the middle).
I think it's better in the hand. Had the Xbox 360 years ago and had the opportunity to use the Xbox One controller, but I don't like either of them as much as the PS4 controller. It's just perfect in my hand. I only find a USB-C port on the controller much better than the current Micro-USB, which quickly wears out and then works poorly.
