For online multiplayer, you ALWAYS need Xbox Live Gold, if that was the question.
That was not the question I would like to know if there are free games that do not require Xbox Live but thanks anyway for your answer
Well, single player games of all kinds. Some multiplayer games don't need Xbox Live either. In order to be able to purchase digital games, you obviously need an Xbox Live Account (360) because the locally created Xbox profiles do not work.

You can download free games in the store of your Xbox under the heading "Free / Free Games" but for the download you have to connect to Xbox Live (i.e. Connect to the internet) Game Xbox Live or even Xbox Gold, read the description for it.
So you need to connect to Xbox Live at least for download (note that Xbox Live and Xbox Gold are not the same, Xbox Gold is a paid service to play online games, Xbox Live is just connecting to the internet for downloads, achievements, etc. And free)
There are no free games on disk, unless you can find someone who gives them away on a second-hand platform (eBay, etc.).
