Ps4 or xbox (no pc)?

So I move to my new apartment in a year, I don't have a PC but still want to be able to play with my best friend, I know very little about gaming but he will teach me that I have to use a sony TV in front of the console use (to close). Now I wanted to ask what I should get myself and why. Because I don't have a pc and I don't plan to get one, it's all complicated.
