Today's cell phones almost all have Type C adapters, but what were the adapters called earlier? For example with a Samsung Galaxy S 3. Because I need one because I can use it to connect my Xbox controller to the PC.

The s3 has a micro USB cable type B connector
Maybe you mean an OTG cable.

The newer ones are all called USB.
Mini USB, Micro USB. (You call that C). C Because there are 3 different ones. You have the old big one on the PC.
