RDO on the XBOX for free?

So I have a xbox one and I would like to play Red Dead Online, do I have to buy it separately? Or do I need a membership? I already own the game, but haven't been able to download it yet.

So

It's called "GAMES WITH GOLD" so the games are only free if you have an active Gold subscription. You also need a Gold subscription to play online anyway.
