I have a 144hz monitor in front of me to buy. I know that the ps4 only manages 60hz but I have to buy a PC soon. For that I would take a 144hz monitor. Are there any disadvantages when using a PS4 on a 144hz monitor?
No it does not.
There are no disadvantages with PS4 and 144Hz.
You only have to make sure that the monitor still has HDMI, but that should actually be the case with most monitors.

Nonsense. Images are displayed twice to reach the 144Hz that the panel has. Lags doesn't do that and freesync is mostly against artifacts
I don't have it here. But it works just like any monitor. Either on the menu of the monitor, or with an explicit software:-)
