Can a receiver record series on the TV without an hdmi connection?

It takes the consequences from the receiver, right? It is about my girlfriend connecting her receiver to the TV and missing an hdmi connection for the ps4. That's why I only have to and can remove this receiver connection, but I then wonder if it will still record.
