Why so many just buy a new controller
Because they are too stupid to change the battery, or they don't even know that it is possible, or think that it is too difficult.
If the problem is with the battery then this is an easy one to fix. With a little dexterity, the controller can be unscrewed, the battery unplugged, reconnected and screwed back on. But many do not dare to do this and therefore spend a lot of money on a new one.
