External hard drive from Samsung to Xbox 360?

I have a Samsung hard drive (250gb) and wanted to know if I could use it on my Xbox 360 slim. The hard drive is easily recognized, but it only gets power from one of the USB ports on the Xbox. The hard drive is a USB 3.0 disk. My question would be whether I should use it without problems (e.g. Data loss or broken disk) or should I operate it with an external power supply? I also don't care if the speed is 2.0 or 3.0.

Actually the hard drive should work, external power source is not necessary
