What can I do if my external intenso hard drive is not displayed or only in a different form and can't be used?

I have an external intenso usb3 hard drive that I used on my xbox. I wanted to use this on my pc, but there it is NOT shown at "this pc" where the hard drives are displayed. Under the device manager it is displayed in a different category and I have no idea how I can use it (if that is it at all, but I assume, see screen shot). There won't be a hard drive in my laptop, right? Is it external?

even my new xbox no longer recognizes the hard drive. Can someone help me? I can update the driver, uninstall the device, use properties in the device manager with a right click.

how do I get it back as a normal external hard drive? Or is that other hardware, and my hard drive is somehow broken and is therefore not displayed?

Reformat once in the "Disk Management"

You can find this in the Windows search bar under "Create hard drive partitions and format"

But then all of your data that was on the hard drive is gone!

But that's sure my external right? Not that I somehow format hard drives on my laptop. The external ones appear in a different category in the device manager. At least my other hard drive

and how do I format? In the device manager there can only uninstall

am i right there?

Formatting: Press Windows key + R, enter "cmd", then the shell appears (black screen, white font). Type in "Format d:" (or whatever your drive letter is), Enter and off you go. As peter944 writes, your data and possibly also the operating system (Windows) are gone. So I would think twice about that!

Whether a device (Xbox, laptop, etc.) can read a hard drive depends on its system: FAT32 or NTFS. When you format, you can choose which system to use.

You have already found the disk management, the lower one (disk 1).

But you can also click Intenso External USB3.0 SCSI Device… Click (left mouse button) and format.

Data is then just gone (as already written).

But I don't know which drive letter it is because it doesn't recognize the hard drive and doesn't show it under "this pc" or workstation. Windows is on c. My laptop only had one as far as I know.

is the external in the device manager really my external hard drive or something built into my laptop? Can i see this anywhere It confuses me that the device manager is displayed elsewhere than normal external hard drives

Hmm so it was not formatting, I have now created a new data volume? Was the option in disk management. Sounds to me as more circumspect than if the pc didn't even know that the hard drive is ne xD now it's definitely possible, thank you

Very simple: unplug it and see if it is still displayed

New volume is right
