In some YouTube video (subject: useless knowledge) it was also claimed, if their research is correct, that the console idea and the concept had been developed by a Sony employee within the company and that he co-developed the idea and designs of a console took to "competition"; so that they developed a console and Sony followed suit with a new design. - It's been a long time since I saw that.

Nintendo ordered a CD drive for the Super Nintendo from Sony, but broke off the deal at the last minute and Sony was left with countless drives, and out of frustration they produced the first Playstation from them. Microsoft was afraid that Sony would dominate the living room, so they developed the Xbox, which was made from slightly modified PC parts.
Personally, I'm clearly part of the Xbox team because I and many others really appreciate the sticks that have been moved. I also like the games more. But I admit that the Xbox one was really not the yellow of the egg
