Instead of canceling my subscription, I deactivated recurring billing / payment (now there's no recurring billing last 8/25/20) but it has the same effect as a cancellation / termination

You basically had the normal monthly subscription?! Then you did it right. There's no such thing as canceling, you just cancel the recurring billing and it runs off by itself. Then you can use prepaid codes.
Yes, yes, but if they don't ask for money after the expiry, because then I will probably delete the account where my current subscription is because I have a second account, so I wanted to know whether what is required after the expiry
Nothing will happen but don't delete it right away. Can possibly use again at some point.
Ok thanks, as I said, I still have to decide so I wanted to be sure because if I cancel my subscription, it says subscription can't be billed you paid for your Xbox live gold, it will expire on September 24th so yeah haha
