Will there ever be a Virtual Earth with all cities?

I just wonder if there will ever be a Virtual Earth with all continents, places and cities. Would something like this technically feasible for an XBOX or Sony Playstation?

Je

The new Flight Simulator from Microsoft has two petabytes of data (2 million gigabytes!), If you want to play everything from the map in the highest resolution offline.

And that's only a fraction of what would actually be data if you wanted to represent the entire world virtually.

I think that's impossible, especially since the world changes every second, so that the database is never up-to-date.

Ja

Google has already implemented it in Google Earth. Can you check in the flight simulator?
So, theoretically, it's possible to create something like that. But the data volume of a detailed, graphically good world is probably not yet sustainable. Although there are many buildings and terrain, but not really detailed. That will take some time

Ha

In a way, there's something like that already: Minecraft.

At least in the Java Edition, the absolute maximum extent of the world in the horizontal is 29999999 blocks. Assuming that the blocks are one meter long (which is quite plausible, given that the player has room for one to two hands in a room two blocks high), then you have an area of 899,999,940km² (for comparison: the earth has a total area of about 510,000,000km²).

Well, the altitude or depth are a bit lower (measured from the sea level about 61 meters down and 193 meters up), but that could possibly be adjusted.

To the cities (and all the other stuff that's so on Earth): It would be a hell of a lot of work, but (at least theoretically) feasible.

Conclusion: A slightly adapted Minecraft version (if you take "easy" just the core and builds the rest around proportionally to completely new) and a huge pile of work, then it's doable. (At least on the PC, for XBOX, PS4, etc. Not so "easy".)

Although probably not quite what you are looking for, but at least it's going in the direction. ^^
