I've never seen that you can cancel a subscription.

I do this with Xbox live gold, a service that you can play online with. You pay in advance, so I pay 6.99 euro for 1 month, then I wait until the month is almost over, and then I cancel it and buy it again with the money with which I bought it.
You can cancel your subscription up to the date it expired, after which it will not be renewed. Unless you buy it again
