My internet is constant with 130-140 Mbit download and 30-40 Mbit upload, no matter what time, no matter what day, so I'm pretty happy with the line and have never had any problems with it.
BUT: When I play a game I like to have a Twitchstream running in the background or music in Youtube and then despite this top line I always have ping spikes in the games every few minutes even though my line is more than enough. And these are always noticeably annoying for 2 seconds. You just notice that it shouldn't be that way. I already understand that YouTube e.g. Reloading 2 hours of songs again and again, but that shouldn't be a problem for my management. I always do speed tests, these are always constant as described above. And I only have these ping spikes in games as soon as I run Twitch or Youtube in the background. If I don't have that open in the background, then I don't have any problems, but should that still be possible?
Calling Telekom doesn't help, they don't know their way around and only bring the typical jokes like "restart router". Everyone knows.
I'm actually quite a technique Fuzzi who knows the internet, PC and all the trimmings quite well and have tried a lot, but I'm really desperate now.
There can be different reasons.
Real-time applications such as streams or various online games generally use UPD and not TCP.
In other words, when sending the packets, nothing is checked for errors, but a fast data flow is prioritized. Faulty packets are not sent again, but discarded.
And the more heavily loaded a line is, the more susceptible it is to error.
These are your streams on the one hand, but also all other internet users in your area, who are all connected to the same distribution list.
Your streams / videos also cause a delay, because even if the UDP packets are prioritized (for streams it would be the same priority again), the TCP packets must still be sent at some point.
Another problem can be routing.
You can have a perfect connection to the server that runs the speed test. But this is only a connection and may have no meaning at all about your game, stream or YouTube video.
Because their servers are routed very differently, so completely different routers and lines are used.
And if these routes are slow or prone to malfunction, then it doesn't help you if you have great values on another route.
The server can also cause a delay.
Servers now also need a certain amount of time to answer and at the moment there are far more people at home and are, among other things. Even in online games on the go. In other words, the servers are also more heavily loaded than usual.
In addition, these problems are not mutually exclusive. It can also be a mixture of all.
