For about a year it has not been possible to play multiplayer on a world if the owner of the world has played alone in the world without being logged in with his Microsoft account (for example because he was currently without internet).
Your friend can try to copy the world (world settings> scroll down); maybe then you can play together in the copied world. You could try that.
