Why can't you play Watch dogs legion without the internet?

Hello and indeed there's now Watch Dogs legion for free over the weekend I also installed it & then saw that mine is also for the ingame if you want to play the story need internet & according to research you don't need internet in ingame & my question is now that now only over the weekend or that applies forever that you also need for ingame solo where you only play the story in the campaign Internet

In my experience, you don't need the internet, only if you want to use the online functions such as racing or co-op.
