I bought an XBOX hard drive, but I only want to use it to store photos. Should I format it first - right click and then format or something else? Or doesn't it matter?
And should I tick the quick format when formatting or not? And should you change allocation units?
The hard disk must be formatted as NTFS.
How can I find out how it is now formatted?
Right click, properties… HD's purchased on a pc are mostly NTFS pre-formatted…
Quick format. Because the systems on demand set up the things you need. Would only do if you really want to overwrite or delete something. But since the storage media now have their own logic, this is of no use. Ergo has completely useless formatting in the past.
I don't think it's formatted.
If in doubt, check the disk management as follows:
Right-click on the Windows icon> Disk Management…
The USB hard disk is shown there as a "removable disk", presumably "Not assigned".
To format, right click on it> New Simple Volume…> Follow the wizard.
If you just want to get rid of the content, but don't sell, give away, or dispose of the hard drive, quick formatting would have to do it.
