What do you like about Zelda?

So many people are celebrating Zelda, and I'm considering whether I should get Zelda on the Nintendo Switch too…

But I still have one question: What makes the game so special? Why do so many people play it? What is so amazing about Zelda? Can you tell me that

I heard that he makes several game editions of Zelda.

Op

Just play it. Then you notice it quickly.

Tip: Start with The Legend of Zelda, which was released for the NES.

The Legend of Zelda, or Zelda for short, is a video game series by the Japanese company Nintendo. Since the first The Legend of Zelda in 1986, 19 "main parts" and some offshoots have appeared.

It is roughly an action adventure game. Although many parts of the series are different, they are all incredibly fun.

Just play it. Even without knowing the background story, it is highly recommended.

Le

Zelda is one of the best and most successful game series in the world and certainly not without reason.

Get it and play and you will most likely not regret it.

However, I'm not sure whether I should recommend Breath of the Wild to a Zelda Virgo or rather Links Awakening.

I tend towards the latter, as this embodies much more the "classic" Zelda as we have known it for many years, although BotW is the best Zelda of all time.

de

I've been a fan of the Zelda series for a long time, but I didn't like the Switch offshoot at all.

The open world is quite nice and nice but I miss it:

- the various gadgets

- Exciting and varied ariale and boss fights

who made the ranks for me

it just felt so boring.

My personal opinion.

Le

I wouldn't necessarily recommend the old NES classics to a Zelda newbie. Although they are good and at least still playable for fans today, they are also very old and could therefore seem rather daunting.

Then I prefer Zelda III for the SNES (A Link to the Past), as it is much more modern and offers better gameplay.

de

I just can't understand why everyone thinks BotW is the best Zelda.

I found it dull and boring and felt like any other open world.

And not according to what I think made Zelda.

This is not an attack now

everyone as he wants.

Why I don't like it you can read in my answer.

ma

I would rather call Alttp or Ocarina of Time the best Zelda of all time. I would understand Majora's mask too.

Op

Better OoT then - because it's still the best (in my opinion) game of the series.

^ this

Le

Of course it's a matter of taste and I have to honestly say I had problems getting in at the beginning.

But after that was a world of endless fun. And no, it's not like other open world games, it makes it very, very much better than any other.

But I'll let David Hain speak for me, because he gets to the point much better than I do 😉

From 10:30 minute onwards it's about BotW

The Legend of Zelda is a series. So there are several games to be precise.

Each game has its own merits, so it would be good to know which game you want to get. Since you're talking about the Switch, I guess that it's about "The Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild".

Breath of the Wild is actually very difficult to compare with the other parts. There's something new and fresh in the series. The game has received good ratings across the board. Basically, this is mainly due to the fact that it is quite simply an action adventure game where everything is just right.

The story is very interesting
There's an open world with no loading times
Interesting NPCs
Interesting main characters
Varied side quests
No level grinding
No microtransactions
The open world is varied and profound
There are a number of hidden things to discover
The setting is breathtakingly beautiful and varied
Combat system is great
There are practically no limits (there's no mountain that you can't climb, no river that you can't cross, no gorge into which you can't jump) Apart from the general limits of the game world, of course.
It invites you to discover it yourself. You stand on a mountain and see something crashing into the ground from the evening sky. You go to look at it and see that you can put this "thing" in. What to do with it now?

The list can go on forever.

Nintendo has managed to combine all the positive things in their game that are missing in other action adventures. It's a game that you play for 20 minutes and then get totally hooked for the next 100 hours.

ra

That's right, it's not the classic Zelda as you know it. Therefore, in my opinion, it can't be compared with these.

Compared to other open worlds, BotW is outstanding (in my opinion).

de

Thanks and I will look again

Le

I found Majora's mask somehow stupid. The other two you mentioned are definitely masterpieces as well. Links Awakening, Between Worlds and Windwaker were also just awesome.

But since Miyamoto almost only pulls out strokes of genius, it is quite difficult to evaluate them. Each Zelda is unique and great in itself.

The rest is then a matter of personal taste.

Le

Definitely a great Zelda.

So I played Zelda on the PC and also have the perspective of a PC player and see the whole thing a little differently:

-0815 story. Which is told in 5 minutes.

-The NPCs are mostly loveless. Why are only a handful synced at all? If only side missions were out of sync, OK. But key figures are also not synchronized.

-Which main character is interesting? So a big character development does not take place at least in the game itself.

-No level grinding? What is e.g. "Bring 50 wood" then?

-The combat system is at the 1999 level.

For me, Zelda only has one thing going on and that is the game world. It's really nice to look at. But can also be very annoying. Getting shrine or korok seeds is just extremely annoying. Even the 20 Shrine with a guard is not an achievement and plays like the first one.

And I don't understand why you should display the graphics on the switch when you have seen the PC images.

ra

Perspective of a PC gamer and see the whole thing a little differently:

Well, I don't think "PC gamer" is more important than other gamers to identify a good game.

0815 story. Which is told in 5 minutes.

And just because it is told quickly, is it uninteresting? What you mean is profound. Stories can be told quickly and still be interesting.

The NPCs are mostly loveless.

That is personal taste. That can certainly be argued. I disagree.

Why are only a handful synced at all?

In the Zelda games it has always been the case that actually no characters are synchronized. The background is that this leaves the imagination a little bit by the wayside. Each player has their own understanding of how a character should sound. The best solution is to leave this decision to the players' imagination.

Which main character is interesting?

Link, Zelda, König von Hyrule, Riju, Sidon etc. Again: Just because something is not particularly profound, that is not a knockout criterion for it to be interesting.

So a big character development does not take place at least in the game itself.

The characters have already been developed at the time of the game. At this point in time, Link has been living for over 100 years. What else should be developed there? The character development has already happened at that point. It's interesting to find out how it came about.

No level grinding? What is e.g. "Bring 50 wood" then?

The mission you are talking about is 1. A side quest and 2. No level grinding. Level grinding means that you have to reach a certain level in order to advance in the story. A collecting task that takes 10 minutes can hardly be called grinding.

The combat system is at the 1999 level.

Can you explain that in more detail? With which games from 1999 is that comparable?

My

Have you played Zelda on a PC? What?

ti

1.) Of course, as a PC player, you have a different perspective. The PC represents a completely different cosmos compared to the switch.

2.) You should read what I wrote. 0 8 15 means something like boring and dreary. And that's exactly what the story is here and then told in 5 minutes. For me the opposite of interesting.

3.) Of course that's my opinion, so your text is yours.

4.) You agree with me here. For me, not being profound is synonymous with boring.

5.) They could still develop further. Why shouldn't they be able to?

6.) OK, if the wood mission isn't level grinding, then I don't know either. Especially due to the fact that the guns are not infinite. You do the same thing over and over again. That is level grinding in perfection. You have generously left out the shrine in your argument.

7.) Take Thief, because many know it, had a very similar combat system.

ti

With Tik2SD you can read out the keys of WiiU games and then play them in the emulator Cemu on the PC. And Zelda in high resolution and with appropriate textures looks a lot better. Overall, there's also a huge scene around graphic mods that really get a lot out of the engine.

St

Wind Waker isn't bad either.

St

In my opinion, Oot or aLbw is still best for beginners

Le

However, none of them are available on the switch. There are only BotW and LA, as well as the NES classics if you have bought the Nintendo subscription.

Ca

Just because YOU don't like it, you don't need to say that it's the worst game of them all and that everyone who likes it has a roof damage!

Ca

So I actually have to say that the story is not the strong point of the game. That is hardly available, because you are basically taken care of from the beginning to visit the castle and defeat Ganon. Everything else like Impa in Kakariko, the titans and the memories tell parts of the story, but they are hardly connected pieces of the puzzle and also rather optional. The real strength of the game lies in the freedom to do what you want. Exploring the world and experimenting with different things.

Le

He didn't do that at all. Only expressed his personal opinion on what I find legitimate.

I consider Final Fantasy VII, for example, to be one of the weaker parts, although many fans hail it as the best FF ever.

Or the film Seven, which I find mega boring, but I'm relatively alone with the opinion. Tastes are just different

de

I agree

It's also a good game for me, but I have different expectations of a Zelda.

It was the same for me with Bioshock Infint

I'm a huge fan of the series.

But for me it's just not what it is.

if it were run under other names I would probably have liked it better.
