Why do so many adults blame the internet?

So my mother has the following. Logic: Me: "I have a stomachache" my mother: it comes from the cell phone

Me: "I have a headache" my mother: all because of your Playstation

And my dad thinks that makes Battlefield violent. Are there any adults here somewhere who can explain that to me?

Ra

So I'm the wrong target group for the question, but I guess that comes from inexperience with these things?
For example, your father only finds the game violent because he is not used to these actions or these images.
For example, as a teenager and friends I set off old grenades from the war in the forest. Yes, it was fun and more than just violence. We weren't older than 14 or something.

Up

Neither the Playstation nor the cell phone are "the Internet". Your parents blame the excessive use of these devices in their eyes, but not the internet.

Gu

Yeah it was fun

very fun to risk one's life in a stupid way.

Su

Haha, they don't know what else to do with you so that you obey better and therefore they make up all sorts of nonsense.

I've been playing since I was 10 years old - now I'm 47 and I'm still playing… I've also played through the entire Battlefield series, even the version that was then called Version 1942 …

I have never been violent or "damaged" someone because of it

Nor did the zokkerei lead to any health problems.

My cell phone charges near my head at night and I still have wonderful dreams…

I also learned a lot through my brawling about how to create game servers, how normal servers work and the brawling I got a very good reaction…

All in all, the PC didn't harm me, neither did the consoles - but I'm not a console type either, I just gamble on the PC…

And I know a 70-year-old who is also jarring, the Mod from DayZ and that every day… He also lives very well and is not in jail for any crimes.

Ra

Mimimi…
You could have left your stupid comment stuck.

mu

I can no longer edit the question 😬

Adolescent fun is mostly reckless, but these are exactly the kind of memories that one fondly remembers in later life and can admit to "how stupid you actually were".

Everyone does something stupid and dangerous in their youth, if you don't do it or risk it, you miss a lot of beautiful moments in life and - this is particularly important - you don't learn for life.

Nowadays, children are so exaggeratedly "protected" by their parents that many adolescents no longer have the ability to at least make a decision on their own. Take a look at the different schools, especially high schools and secondary schools. The students of these years are becoming more and more dependent, but should take the reins of the nation in hand in the future.

Anyone who looks at the growing generation and fears for their pension does so for good reason.

But how does that actually come about? Exactly because the children are no longer allowed to risk or try anything, they are prescribed what is good and what is bad. You just have to go to a playground like some mothers frantically watch their children and half faint when the child has climbed the third rung of the ladder.

Gu

But how does that actually come about? Exactly because the children are no longer allowed to risk anything or try them out

It's not about what children are allowed to try. Children should be able to try things out, but I think that detonating ancient grenades from the last world war is more than just reckless. What if a grenade stops working properly and explodes too soon? I'm not a gun expert, but being too careful has never harmed anyone.

Ra

Ancient grenades from the last world war

They weren't 30 years old then. They weren't very old now.

gr

I've seen both.

in my youth there was no cell phone or internet. I was fine. I was out and about a lot, cycling, talking face to face, reading books, going to the cinema, parties, traveling, etc. Everything worked without www or mobile phone. We didn't look down and couldn't be reached 24 hours a day. City map instead of route planner, phone book instead of web… I was fine. Really better than now, because every online game is unsatisfactory in the long run. Better to create something with your own hands, fax together. Look the other in the moving eyes. Hug each other in real life and not virtually. This is very important.

Then the internet came, I was blown away, got in, chatted, played, cobbled together my own website with html, learned a lot about pc, became google "queen". Social networks and games until the doctor comes. My child grew up during this time. He was already familiar with it in elementary school and sometimes I had to put a stop to him because nightly gambling got out of hand. Of course there was also Aggros with him and no desire to call anyone, but not doing homework so extreme that I could now see violence. But seclusion. I myself will slowly be "mouthed" by being online all the time. My cell phone always went with me, I can hardly do without it. That's sad. You get back tension, which can then shift towards the head. You forget to eat and drink. And then I take a break. In the meantime I'm getting used to just leaving my cell phone lying around. Watch movies more often, turn off your PC, or just go to another room and do something else.

I just ordered something to do handicrafts (yes, on the internet of course;). I look forward to creating something with my hands that I can use afterwards. I believe that children also need to get to know the other options before their time. Imagine there was no internet, what are you doing during this time? I read here again and again, what should I do, I'm bored - I was hardly bored in my life before the web and also not itchy. Then ask, what should I give this and that for a birthday? I always think of something and why? Because I know more about myself when I see, interact and communicate with him personally. What do you give someone who sits at the PC all day? A subscription for Twitch, a hard drive (the 150th?), A game expansion that doesn't fit or the Amazon voucher? It used to be a book that you personally picked out in a bookstore, an invitation to the cinema, and much more. You have really thought about it.

So, enough written, I already have a backache;)

Sl

You are right so far that it is unreasonable, but how do you want to explain that to a 14-year-old who is in the mood at the moment and you as a parent can't understand what he is doing because you are not helicoptering the child?

I would not have done it any other way and would have had great fun with it.

Da

Some adults do not see what is being done on the computer.

All they see are pale, sleepy schoolchildren with diarrhea shuffling out of their room after 20 hours of gambling and wondering what that has to do with the "real" life and whether it will stop on its own…

mu

Thank you first for your answer.

So I NEVER suffer from boredom, Battlefield, CoD or apex are just always fun.

I know that the real world exists, but I hate to meet someone, that's just boring for me. Times change.

But why is the technology always to blame?

So my mother blames my mother for the following things: stomach ache, headache in general, everything that hurts.

My father blames technology for the following: That I like to be alone. The Battlefield makes all players violent no idea how to come up with something like that?

Etc… I just don't get it

mu

Oh man, it's just so much fun to sit on the PC or in front of the ps4 …

gr

You would be bored if there was no internet. That is what is meant by it. Of course you can play. It's just a question of whether you would think of something if the internet went down completely for a few weeks. Would you be able to do something that would give you pleasure? As a mother, I think it's important to teach my child something like that. Creativity, inventiveness and fun without technical aids. That's why it can be a little less web and a little more real life.

Abdominal pain is certainly not always the reason for using a PC, but it can be. E.g. If someone sits around permanently, the intestine is not moved enough and everything goes tight, indigestion up to stomach pain. I already mentioned headaches above. Cramped shoulders, neck, etc. Can lead to headaches. Even a little fresh air can lead to this. But that is not necessarily the cause. Vitamin D deficiency also often occurs in couch potatoes.

Overall, being alone can have many causes. What often happens is that someone who is addicted makes up all sorts of excuses as to why they'd rather be alone and gamble now. How many hours do you spend on it? 1,5,10 or even more during the day / night?

How much do you want to do something else? Zero? Or do you get your very best to get up, clap your hands and happily throw yourself into something other than gambling? No? Since we have the mess.

You can't just say that times change. That's an excuse. You are playing with your health. Oxygen and exercise are essential alongside nutrition (apart from junk food) in order to stay healthy.

I only know battlefield from watching, not the others. Yes, there's a lot of balling, etc. I don't think that the game can turn people into violent criminals. Unless there was a prior tendency towards violence or hatred of people. I do not know whether and how the duration of use and everything that still goes on mentally in people and can lead to such sick behavior.

Overall, your parents are right and wrong.

Find the middle between gaming and real life. Then you live best. Go do sports, ride a bike, take a walk or something similar. And compare the feeling of happiness that follows with what you have while gambling. A huge difference. Believe me!

I don't want to be here as the moral apostle. I just believe that I have learned from my diverse experiences and that I'm happy to pass this on to others.

mu

During the holidays I like to spend 16 hours a day in front of the playsi. Now that school has started again, I gamble about 4 hours a day

In fact, I have no desire to do anything else… Call of Duty is almost like Battlefield, only slightly different.

I thank you for the helpful answers!
