This is the question for all the television experts. I wanted to get a new Sony Bravia TV with HDMI 2.1 input for the PS5. The 2.1 input ensures that you have a native resolution of 4k 120hz and 8k 60hz.
I don't care about the 8k at first, but I would like the 4k 120hz.
Problem: the current XH90 have 100hz. Sony promises with a firmware update that it will be possible to achieve "native" 120hz.
My question: How can a TV set with 100Hertz display native 120Hertz through a system update? That should not go yet?
100Hz and 120Hz are always synonymous with televisions. It doesn't matter what it says there, it's always 120.
What you probably mean is that the HDMI 2.1 support will be submitted via update. I think that's already there.
What the problem with the TV is (has nothing to do with your question) is that the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is apparently limited to 30GB / s. It should actually be 48.
Okay, thanks for the additional information! I did not know that. Hmm, would you recommend buying the XH90 right now? It currently has a discount from 1200 euro down to 749 euro. Black Friday is coming up soon. Or would you say that I should wait and maybe buy the better version? (if any come out)

It's really difficult. The Xx90 series from Sony offers a very good P / L ratio itself, I have a device from the series (from 2017). But if I want a future-proof HDMI 2.1 TV, I don't think I would take the XH90 myself.
A new video came out about it:
The channel is probably the world leader when it comes to that sort of thing. I haven't looked at it yet, but it will surely tell you how big the problem really is.
The thing only comes to bear at 4K @ 120Hz. For everything else, 749 euro is really an excellent price.
Correction: I just read that the title is about the PS5!
However, the TV itself has a similar limitation that is covered in a previous video.
In other words, it might not be a problem at all if the PS5 has less bandwidth than the TV anyway.
I'll watch the video myself today.
Thanks for the answer. Well now I have to weigh what I get. One last question. What is the difference between the XH9005 and XH9096 models. The 96 is on Amazon but has exactly the same stats…
As far as I know, the last 2 numbers are only about the color or possibly country-specific variants (you have to pay attention to that; but this is more of a problem with Samsung and not with Sony).
Yes ^^ I just have the video running. And then he explains that the PS5 is capped
I've looked at it now and also a
on the topic (I wanted to do that anyway).
Summary: There's a problem with a somewhat blurred picture with 4K @ 120Hz signal on the XH90. Sony has said it will address the issue in a future update. However, one can't say whether this will solve it.
So the bottom line: Very decent TV for a good price for everything except 4K @ 120Hz, that will work, but you may have to make compromises.
