How can an external hard drive that serves as extended storage for the PS4 be set as a USB storage device?

Had an external hard drive connected, this had to be formatted and was connected as an "external storage device" to save games on it.

I have now reduced the games and would like to save some data (music, videos) on the PS4 to the hard drive in order to transfer them to my computer.

Unfortunately, this is not possible because the message "Data can't be copied because the selected USB device is used as extended memory" always appears.

Can I change that somehow?

Maybe if I connect the hard drive to my laptop beforehand and change any settings?

You can tell I have no idea about such things - please for tips.

The plate acts as external storage and only serves the console as storage for in-game photos, videos and of course games.

To get music on the laptop, you either have to set the disk so that it is not an external memory, but only a kind of large USB stick. Or you should probably use a real USB stick.

You can copy saved games and music and videos and pictures onto them and then transfer them to the laptop.

And how do I set it up as a USB stick? I wanted to know that.

Have no stick left and just wanted to get this last data on the PC before I hand over the console.

@Clawthorne

As it is, it serves as an external expansion of your internal storage. It is of course not intended to be removed.

Therefore, you have to use a USB stick

I see. Devices or something like that is somewhere in the settings.

Click on it and then on USB storage devices or something.

Your plate should appear there. And there you can reformat it.

It's stupid that it can't be "reset", after all it was recognized as a stick beforehand and I had to change it specially.

Can't I change that somehow?
