Simply plug in an external USB hard drive. The console recognizes these with the request to partition them. Then you can use them.
Have been using a 2 terabyte myself for years.
Can I only use the external hard drive, or both? So external hard drive and storage from Xbox?
You can do both and you can move the data among each other.
